Just one quick NLP based example for how to speak to people is to determine if someone’s style is primarily auditory, visual, kinesthetic or auditory digital. People who are primarily auditory will tend to talk a lot about how things sound and be influenced more when you use sound related words. For example: “I hear you” “sounds good” “I bought the product because I heard it was a good value.” A more visual person will talk more in terms of visual words and will be persuaded to your point of view faster if you paint compelling picture or say something like just imagine how good that [car or other product] will look in your driveway.” “Can’t you just picture how you will look great in that car.” A primarily kinesthetic person wants to feel what you are saying or experience things by doing not so much by seeing or hearing. An auditory digital person wants to hear the logic the ideas the sense of a potential purchase. While all styles still have some element of the other styles of course, the key is the most influential persuasive words will be the ones that cater to the person’s primary style. A natural mistake people make is to speak to people as if they assume others will be influenced the same way they are influenced. Telling a primarily kinsethetic person to just picture how great something will be or making a speech to people in a group without using words that speak to each style are huge mistakes.
